Mk 1 Oil gauge fault Help

Recommended Posts

I have a stage 3 Crossflow fitted to my Mk 1 Gt

On start up the needle on the  oil gauge goes right up to max then settles back to zero and stays there. ( original Mk 1 gauge )

I realise there are two types of gauge , oil pipe & electric .

Do I need to replace the gauge for a Mk2 Cortina item or is there a way I can fix the original gauge ?

What sender unit do you have - this is the right one ?s-l1600.jpg

hard to tell from distance, but it sounds you have the "normal" sender fitted, not the GT one

Yes that's easy then - Tony's senders are perfect for what you need .

With a stage 3 engine l wouldn't want to rely on the sender type, it would be a mk2 gauge with pipe, but be very careful on your routing of your pipe, l had a 1600E that nearly set itself on fire, due to a chaffed oil pipe on the route through the dashboard, pipe split and was pouring oil onto the amp gauge, a bit like a James Bond film, but the smoke screen was inside the car.

The oil sender pictured will not fit a later 711 block , I have found the thread stem is too small.

Looks like its a Mk2 gauge with oil pipe required . 😟

Brilliant , thanks for that , just ordered one  .

Oops! You're going to hate me, out in the garage this morning and checked the correct sizes for late and early blocks. The correct size is 1/4" to 1/8" BSP as per link. Message the seller and see if you can swap it for the correct one, sorry!
