RT 1006 137 Posted March 27, 2019 Electrically there will be no difference. The stator windings produce a 3 phase waveform which is then rectified to provide the DC output, the voltage and polarity of which will remain the same irrespective of rotor direction of rotation. cortinasuper1500 8 Posted March 28, 2019 Agreed, it will charge perfectly until you try and take too much current out of it, and it gets to warm and then the output voltage will drop off.. The fan thats pulling the cooling air through will not be working efficiently, you may need to duct some cool air to it...I had this issue when I drove the alternator from a rear drive shaft and was running backwards. MK5 V8 1 Posted August 2, 2019 you can get fans with flat fins as opposed to the angled fins on the usual fan that allow you to use in either direction
