Cologne 2.9 12V V6 With TX1 Taxi Radiator. Help With Replacing Bottom Radiator Hose.

Trying to find a suitable Lower Radiator Hose for my MK3 from the TX1 Black Cab Radiator up to the Water Pump inlet on the engine. Viscous fan removed so distance from radiator before going up to the water pump is very short.

If anyone has the same engine/rad set up, you may just be able to help.

I used a Samco silacone hose on mine, just measured up the pipe sizes and chose the nearest shape they made, not sure which one it was now as it's a few years ago, I found that the taxi rad did not keep mine cool enough so I cut the slam pannel out a bit and fitted a big aluminuim one, the engine has been uprated a bit so that could be why.

I have also found the TX1 Rad doesn't really keep it cool enough. I'm always keeping my eye on the Temp gauge and switch on my manual overide fan whenever i get caught in traffic. Would love to see some more detailed photos of the your Radiator with  Coolant Hoses and your Electric Fan set up on yours if you would be O.K  with that. Would serious consider upgrading my Rad and Fan, just not sure what would fit and what would work.

I use a transit smiley rad with my ford V8 it just fits between chassis rails with the brackets etc trimmed of rad.

I've trimmed slampanel similarly & the front inner panel too.

I'll try get some pics tomorrow.

Would be good to see a few more photos of your V8. Bet it sound fantastic. I'm afraid i only have the 2.9 V6 Cologne but have been wanting to upgrade the radiator for some time due to it heating up very quickly as soon as you hit traffic. 

Its just knowing what larger  radiator would fit in the MK3 and then what hoses to use to couple the Rad to engine. I have got rid of the viscous fan and have an electric fan on the forward side of the radiator.

Let me know what your  thoughts are on this.

In the past I would use V6 Capri/Granada rads when fitting V6's but there expensive now days.

These pictures of my 302 (5.0) ford V8 MK3 may be a bit dark ( not much room left with this in there) but I've had this combination for over 10 years.

Your photos still show an engine well worth talking about. Well done on your project.

As for my  2.9 12 Valve Cologne i would like to fit a Bigger Radiator. I know i am limited to the Type/ Size of rad but if you could offer me any help from your experience on what type of Radiator to buy including the hoses which would be the correct shape to match up to the water pump and top of the engine your help would be much appreciated. You said you have you V6 Capri & Granada Radiators. What MK of Capri & Granada radiators did you use ?

MK2/3 Capri for Essex or cologne with matching pipes.

MK1 Granada for Essex & MK2 for cologne.

If the taxi one isn't working Id opt for one of these but there expensive now days.

Not many rads nowadays come with a cap.

 

For most other conversion's I've used what ever seemed to fit.

 

With. Twincams I use either 90'astra rad with modded twincam lower hose can't remember top one orI If i use aTX1 rad I use a Capri ohc top hose with I think twincam lower.

When I did MX5 into escort I used RsS2000/MK2 transit ohc rad but can't remember what hoses.think top was ohc.

 

I remember the Sierra rad used to over cool the efi pinto in my mates HC viva EST we swapped it for cortina/Capri ohc one.

Do you know if it would match up with the water inlet & outlets on the engine and would it fit in the engine bay ?

Electric fan would be mounted on the front of radiator behind the grille.

Again your help much appreciated. Just that i can't spend this sort of money unless i know it will fit.

Sound like you have had  experience fitting different radiator within the mk3.

This is one of the reasons people use the taxi one it's a lot cheaper.

I've been involved in maintaining, modding & restoring especially MK3/4/5/P100's since the mid 80's ,on budget so perfectly understand what you mean re getting things right.

Really Appreciate your help. It's a lot of money as you know. Doesn't have to be  this one but would like a new one. Been looking on Ebay and seen the odd secondhand Capri V6 Cologne Rads for £70 - £80 and probably not much good either. If you could let me know what you can find out that would be a great help.

I know this is an ancient thread, but posting a reply here in case it is of assistance... 

 

My daily drive is an imported 1986 US Ranger with a 2.9 Cologne engine. I have had it about 2 years and sat in umpteen traffic jams, and the temperature has never been an issue. 

 

I will measure up and see if it could be fitted to a cortina. Assuming yes, then although it would need importing, there will be a plentiful supply as Rangers have excellent aftermarket parts availability. I generally use Rockauto to order bits. 

 

Ps it is using the standard fan on the waterpump

Further thought: apologies if this is well-known but MK1 and Mk2 cortinas were sold in the US under their posh Mercury brand (we're European so we're fancy).

I'd recommend rockauto too been using them for years.

They were recently offering champion brand oil filters for the 3.8 V6 Mustang at 89 pence each with 5 day delivery to the UK so allin £5  so what you say, well theyre same as crossflow & zetec silver top!

 

Last year I bought a pair of monroe front legs for an early 90's thunderbird delivered within the week all in for £92 these are same as my 02 Aussie ford falcon which would've been £250 from Australia same delivery time.
