chris mk3 320 Posted December 18, 2025 (edited) Does anyone have a picture of how face lift dash board clocks are mounted? Mines never have that piece of the jigsaw since I've owned it, thanks Edited December 18, 2025 by chris mk3
chris mk3 320 Posted December 19, 2025 (edited) So, attacking rattling at mo, as you can see on the video connector from rack to column bush worn out, looks original, I'm.replacing with a new unit tomorrow, also fitted new column top bearing and so called lower bush, bits two bits of plastic, really poor I've used silicon to bond them together and also up the bottom end of the column, let it go off over night, doesn't rattle around, hope it lasts, I'm also rubber mounting the column, keep you updated if it improves, should do , the top column bearing had play , that's gone now On another note, anyone know what wires I need to wire up my rev counter? Thanks 👍 VID_20251219_193809.mp4 Edited December 19, 2025 by chris mk3
sheffieldcortinacentre 711 Posted December 19, 2025 (edited) You need to rearrange wires in plugs & add a wire between rev counter & green wire on coil. The plugs are numbered (1-5 & 1-9),if you look at wireing diagram it shows you what colour wire goes to which slot in plug. chris mk3 320 Posted December 19, 2025 Hate electric s but I'll look, cheers Craig
sheffieldcortinacentre 711 Posted December 19, 2025 It's pretty easy actually you can poke them out of plug & push back in you have to join two grey /yellow ( illumination) which leaves you with a spare end to use for rev counter. Bortaf did a how to on here somewhere I think I've plugs somewhere I can take pics of.
chris mk3 320 Posted December 20, 2025 That would be great,i will look too. Just put column and connector to rack on , let's hope along with column bearing, no more vibrations
chris mk3 320 Posted December 20, 2025 Much better, tighter more precision with the steering now, still vibrating though. I'm torn now, thinking, did I buy naff to hard engine mount rubbers, does one piece prop need balancing, I bought from a company, they made it to long and had to cut and reweld, I wonder did they bother rebalancing it, and ideas? chris mk3 320 Posted December 29, 2025 (edited) Well, don't buy eBay nasty engine mounts or anything stating "heavy duty" means bone shaker and vibration. Bought some online that shows the mount on the rubber are separate, yes a nice bit of rubber in-between where they bolt on, also the rubber feels slightly softer. Apparently the ones I had on are cheap Chinese possibly, where the bolt goes straight through making them rock solid, I didn't know this about mounts so hope it helps someone . Does anyone have a picture or actually have the type of gearbox mount I need for my type 9 box? Thanks Edited December 29, 2025 by chris mk3
sheffieldcortinacentre 711 Posted December 29, 2025 This is the star rwd mount for 70/80s fords 4/5 speed manual & 3-4 SPD auto alloy use the same one ( it's the metal cross member that differs. Yes those type eng mounts are no good on a road car especially a std one. Normal are a circular rubber block with a metal disc with threaded stud bonded between for HD use classic range rover these have a second disc bonded in the middle. chris mk3 320 Posted December 29, 2025 Yes Craig it's not shaking the car to bits anymore, yes I need the cross member for my gearbox, I bought an escort one and added to it to fit, but again it's heavy duty , so it ain't staying
sheffieldcortinacentre 711 Posted December 29, 2025 You need a mk3-4-5 automatic cross member or any Capri one ( this needs holes redrilling as it's a bit wider than Cortina one). Basically you need one that's flat & straight rather than flat & curved ( like the four speed cortina one).
