Export Spec MK1 Cortina

Recommended Posts

Just out of interest.

My Finnish export spec Mk1 Cortina has the strut top to bulkhead plates, and the cast lower arms, and brackets for a sump guard.

What other strengthening / differences were made to the export spec shells ?

I don t think every export shell had these strengthening. To my knowledge it was mainly Finland and SA (maybe others too) had these features.

The plates near the roll bar mounts are on standard shell as well. The HD export shell also has the reinforced rear chassis legs as per Lotus. I have a HD 2 Door shell from South Africa which has the bulkhead to inner wing supports which i'm going to remove as i dont like the look of them. Also the bonnet hinge brackets on the inner wing are hand welded on not spot welded.

That's interesting Brian. My Finnish HD shell has the bulkhead supports and hinge plates spot welded on.

It looks like you bulkhead supports are hand welded also.

.

I'm wondering if the hand welded is specific to the SA shells. I know that the SA cars had a lot of local content in their builds.

The Finnish shell is Dagenham built and finished, no pun intended.

I can see that my shell has the reinforcing plates on the rear chassis.

Id like to find an original sump guard for my shell, someone has removed it in the past,

I found an export sump guard , Darran at Escortec was selling one on eBay.

Does anyone know the correct colour for these, it looks like it's original colour beige primer.

Is that correct ?

Here's a pic of the stone guard.

Anyone got any ideas to the original colour, is this original colour, or were they black , or silver , any gurus know the answer 🤔
