Might be a stupid question but I'll ask anyway

Recommended Posts

I need to weld in a new piece of boot floor and filler neck tube but wondering do I have to remove the tank. I know the heat generated is very hot but is it likely to get to the tank. At the moment there is about a gallon of fuel in there. I guess I'm looking for the lazy route as I'm finding it difficult to keep working on the ol girl

There’s a good possibility if you weld as is it will remove the tank for you and more than likely the rear of the car 🤭🤭

As above, and it would probably remove you too - from the face of the earth!

Its not too big a job to drop the tank, better safe than sorry, plus an empty tank is worse than a full tank, so I was reliably informed by a fire officer as my MK2 Escort Sport went up in flames, just had time to rip out the new stereo I had just put in it, I had got a full tank of petrol, it didn't go bang like the movies!!!! Burnt my fingers cos stupid me popped the bonnet and went to lift it up, sudden rush of oxygen and wush fingers nicely singed. I did think I could put it out, I was mistaken.

Cheers guys. Guess I'll reposition the car and drop the tank not literally of course
