Mk1 gearbox ratios

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I'm advertising some left over parts from my MK1Cortina build on Ebay , and someone has asked me what the 1st gear ratio in the 1500 box is ?

Does anyone know what ratios were available , so I can see what its closest to when I check it ?

Thanks

Johnny

I just checked it , and its about 3.5 turns per 1 rev of the output.

What ratio is that closest to ?

Thanks

Johnny

Thanks, yes that's what I thought , just this guy is asking what ratio 1st is, 3.5 to 1 is the closest I got.

No real reason for it not to be the standard 1500 gearbox.

Thanks for the link.😁

its usually someone hoping to stumble across a 2.97 , 2000E ratios as there is little or no difference from the outside !!

Yes, I think you're right, and who can blame them😜

All I know is it's a good quiet non cruncher box, and now that it has a 3.54 first gear😁

The wide ratios are 1st 3.54, 2nd 2.39, 3rd 1.41, 4th 1.00.

The semi-close ratios are 1st 2.97, 2nd 2.01, 3rd 1.39, 4th 1.00.

The close ratios are 1st 2.51, 2nd 1.64, 3rd 1.23, 4th 1.00.

I wonder if this would fit my daughters 107E without much cutting and shutting.

I think you would have to ask a guru, to get a definitive answer.

But as far as I know, the box will fit in the standard hole.

Yes the 107E Prefect uses the 105E engine & box so with the 105E bellhousing it should fit fine. I don't know what bellhousing you have but most should work anyway as the 107E clutch will be quite small.

It's the standard fitment, for a 1965 2 door Finnish LHD 1500 deluxe.

Should have a 113E bellhousing then that'll fit.
