Lagermaster 0 Posted October 10, 2020 Is it possible to get repair panels for the inner wing of a mk3 ? Been prodding (always a bad idea !) And there is a huge hole in the side from washer bottle to headlight. You can put your hand through from engine compartment to the back of indicator . Is this terminal do you think. Attached best photos I could get Cheers Paul
Beeper 60 Posted October 10, 2020 (edited) Tis but a scratch, ..... if your name is Pete C. No pics yet but you could call him(not Pete)/them and ask... https://www.steelpanels.co.uk/category/ford/cortina-mk-3/engine-compartment-cortina-mk-3/page/2/ Personally I'd buy a sheet of mild steel, cut back the rot, bend the sheet to cover the hole, pop rivet the steel to the car and start hammering something into a similar shape then weld it on. I am in Leeds, would you be able to send it, i am in no real hurry as cars getting restored next year as trying to get a many parts before hand. Sadly i am no expert in welding so don't know how easy it is the knock up a panel from scratch as mentioned earlier in this thread. Cheers, Paul. Hi Rob, Looking at it, i need just over 12" (300mm) from the front within the yellow line, see rough sketch below. i dont need the chasis rail. On second picture, every thing left of the red line seems a bit thin, getting worse towards the top left corner. Cheers, Paul.
GhiaMk4/5 205 Posted October 14, 2020 (edited) The hourly rate you will be charged will scare you, as others have said, invest in a good welder, l have always used pub CO2, get practising, if you master penetration!!!!???? it won't matter if your welds look rubbish, you can tidy them up with a grinder and initially a grinding wheel, but then a flap wheel, l am pretty sure you will surprise yourself at what you can achieve. J2S 129 Posted October 14, 2020 It’s double skinned down by the hole the indicator wire goes through id not be chopping out as much as the yellow line ! get the wing off light out the way and clean up the area see what’s goo metal and go from there , thin gauge metal you can easy bend make it in smaller patches and join them up , just another skill to learn
