Mk2 Crayford 5 Posted October 22, 2020 Should the series 2 GT have the strut top strengthening plate on the inner wing? I've looked on line at various photos and it seems some do some don't. Mine has always had some badly fitted bodged plates on it but they don't go far enough down the inner wing to do their job, as there is a crack forming below one of them. I assume are just covering up some nasties underneath, so I intend to take these plates off this winter and see replace any dodgy metal below but am not sure if I need to track down the strengthening plates or if it should just have a flush inner wing. Tony Webster 28 Posted October 23, 2020 To the best of my knowledge, no strengthening plate. Just the inner wing and the "bucket" underneath ..... On a GT.
GhiaMk4/5 206 Posted October 26, 2020 None on my GT Savage, but would it handle better, if it had them?
Mk2 Crayford 5 Posted October 26, 2020 Don't know if it would be better. I've got 4 layers of metal and still got a crack in the inner wing. Need to keep on 4 wheels on the corners from now on.
Mk2 Crayford 5 Posted December 26, 2020 (edited) Christmas boredom set in so I've pulled the engine, gearbox, front suspension and stripped the engine bay. As I suspected the bodge was hiding a nice rust sandwich. Had 4 layers, the old suspension cup and wing with a plate below and above keeping the tin worm cosy.
