Lotuscops 73 Posted March 10, 2021 (edited) Anyone know if the spline pattern on a Mk3 Cortina the same as a Mk1 Cortina or Mk1 Escort ? Edited March 10, 2021 by Lotuscops err
sheffieldcortinacentre 529 Posted March 10, 2021 No it should be in the parts inter change list. MK3/4/5/p100,MK1/2 Granada,MK2 escort,MK1 fiesta,MK1 golf/polo are the same.

So a Mk1 Escort is different from a Mk3 Cortina - I never knew that & you would think they would be the same as they were built at the same time ? consul315 172 Posted March 11, 2021 i think it was because MK3 already had some metric stuff fitted?

The Escort used metric fasteners on the gearbox from the start of production in ‘67, at least on the 1.1 and 1.3 versions. My Dad bought a new one in ‘68, and was complaining that he’d have to buy a set of metric spanners. I don’t think he ever had to use them on that car, ‘cos it rusted away long before it needed any serious work on the mechanical bits! Regarding the steering wheel splines, Ford often did change things for no obvious reason. It probably saved 1.5p per car, and Ford was very good at cutting even tiny amounts off production costs. In that case you'd have thought they would have carried over the same shaft to avoid a redesign ?
