Staggering Auction Result !!!

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have just seen that Mathewsons of Bangers and Cash fame have sold a 1979 MK4 2.0S with a reserve of £8000 for the staggering sum of £17400, and that will be plus a buyers premium.  About time to check on the security of our cars. It looks as if Cortina values might follow those of MK1 & MK2 Escorts.

jeeeeez  .......certainly looks like its heading that way as all marks of cortina seem to be on the rise but thats an eye oepener to go that far past its reserve

Yes a nice car. BUT did you see the rot in the nearside wing rail just above the A Pillar to inner wing join and next to the hinge. And underneath the bonnet wasn't very nice, but some one wanted it badly.

Makes you wonder what your own car is worth!!

I suppose that's what Auctions are about really. Remembering the couple who wanted a "wind up Gramophone" they got separated at the entrance to the sale and suddenly realised the lot they were interested was being bid on ... It turned out afterwards they were the only two people bidding on it and were bidding against each other !

The Cortina in the Mathewson's auction exited me for about half an hour, until I realised it would likely "go" way beyond its reserve. And in fairness was (mileage aside, with its "ticking cam" heard on the video) a truer value given its issues and need for plenty of TLC and further expenditure.  :wine:

Maybe not the most desirable of colours, likely a Ghia though.  Early mk5 ?....no holes in front valence?   Seen a bit of action perhaps ?

Nonetheless a mk5....best of the bunch !!! :sofa1:

Another Non Std Colour?

Non Std Vinyl Roof with what looks to be Rot above the Front Screen.

No Rear Seat Belts.

Ghia badge on wrong side of Boot Lid.

No interior or under bonnet pictures.

It has correct holes in the front Valance.

Yes be interested to see what it brings,  Might reflect what mine might be worth.

Sheesh where do you start with that thing!?!?

Underbonnet sound pad missing, L door cards, crusader seats ,base or early L doors ( hmm L door cards) or pattern doors fitted unless all the trim pins have been ground off).

Would like to see 2.0 cast on block as a twinchoke does not automatically meen a 2.0.

Gotta feeling this might be a 1.6L be interesting to see what is plts & logbook say.

Can't be arsed to look further.
