Lobby 105 Posted May 15, 2021 Hi, have all MK3s, Mk4s and Mk5s got a valve fitted in the vacuum hose for the timing? Many thanks.
John Mack 341 Posted May 15, 2021 If you mean a valve in the vacuum hose between the carb and distributer, I don't think so?

I was told the other day that most Pintos have one, maybe not Cortinas then.

sheffieldcortinacentre 764 Posted May 15, 2021 Only late mk5's but never noticed any difference? Probably got some if your really wanting one. Do you have a problem?
Lobby 105 Posted May 16, 2021 The timing on my car is pretty much bang on now but a Ford technician said that one of the valves helps cure slight pinking under load. I'm going to run it for a while without and see how much of an issue it is, he seemed to think the valves were a standard fit, but it sounds like only on the later cars. Thanks everyone. sheffieldcortinacentre 764 Posted May 16, 2021 Yep 80's fitment. Due to the absence of lead & other changes to petrol since cortinas where introduced I use timeing figures as a starting point until I find what is the best that these & any other "classic" is happy to run at.
