Mk3 Wheeltub

Recommended Posts

Anyone chopping up a scrap Mk3 cortina shell, I'm looking for a  useable Offside wheel tub for repair sections ,

Yes anything can be repaired, and I am prepared to cut out and make repair panels if needed.

Just need a decent section to graft in,  I have a pattern part inner wheel arch panel, which will come in handy at some point,

If you have something that might work.  let me know.

Thanks Garry

I have one from an estate but not sure which side, it's at my parents, so can check next time I'm down there but it won't be for a few weeks.

I don't know for sure but someone will know,  are Mk4 & Mk5 tubs the same as Mk3,  other than the inner edge,  which I know is different from the Mk3,  as the Mk3/4/5 pattern part repair panel needs to be sliced/welded  to reduce the radius of the arch for the Mk3 rear quarter, I used a MK5 'Ski-Jump' section which was a great fit,

On the off chance anybody used Granada/Transit/Fiesta etc sections to repair?

The inner half is the same for all ,but outer is different on mk3 to MK4/5.

Only other option is to cut from another make/model by touring breakers.

Yeah, I was thinking of  taking a few measurements and heading down the breakers (last resort), Unfortunately I don't own an english wheel,  I will see if  SW Cortina turns something up,  or anyone else who has got a tub section kicking around, Let me know

HI  ,  I had a look round the local breakers, but there was no obvious similar size wheel tubs  that would have worked for me,

Anyone out there breaking a mk3/4/5 bodyshell with a decent offside rear wheeltub for repair sections?  let me know,  If not,  I can repair this , but i'm not working with much!!!

Cheers Garry

do expresssed have what you need - https://www.steelpanels.co.uk/category/ford/cortina-mk-3/body-side-cortina-mk-3/page/2/

Otherwise I'd buy an English wheel & sell it again when done, you'd probably get whatever you paid for it, so just a matter of fuel & ebay fees to consider or the other option is just use a sheet of steel with the original as a pattern and do it in sections or bend it to shape. It just takes time and patience.

e.g this panel made from scratch with no more than an hammer and a few bits of steel

Thanks Neil, Yes I have made similar repair panels for my Mk3, half floor etc,  I started back on the car yesterday and to keep up the momentum, one repair at a time is still the way to go.

Expressed can be very expensive at times, in comparison to say Mk2 escort sections which are easily affordable from a few sources,  necessity is the mother of invention , as they say.

I'm on the home straight now, i have  a new rear quarter, new rear valance, and inner arch section to go on, once the tub repairs are done, so looking forward rather than back,  Cheers Garry

Unfortunately we're not as well catered for as the mk1-2 escorts.
