Sender unit question.

Recommended Posts

A few months back I eventually got around to fitting the petrol tank I bought from Sheff-Cort-Cent a couple of years back (I think)! On refitting the sender unit I found the metal pipe to be loose. Not wobbling around loose but loose enough for it to turn and probably leak. Any ideas on what I could use to tighten it up and seal it again?

Hi Beeper, Give the joint a really good clean off on both sides and have a go at soldering it. Use a gas torch rather than a soildering iron. Obviously with the sender unit out of the tank !!

Used chemical metal type stuff before for this type of thing.

I was thinking of that Craig. I used some 'Holts Liquid metal' on my VW engine block after I put a screw driver through it whilst trying to get the flywheel off. That was before I learnt about all the funky stuff you need for old Veedubs, like flywheel locking tools.

I took the engine out before I got rid of it, the camper I mean. Whipped the flywheel off and couldn't even see where my repair was. So I'll use either that or I'll just put a couple of spots on it with my mig.

Yep some great stuff about, for exhaust system joints the fireproof silicone is way better than the paste that goes hard.

I discovered that the outlet pipe on mine was soft soldered (from the factory), when I soldered a return pipe in position for my EFI conversion.

I think that  resoldering the pipe would be far better than any sealant or Araldite.

Definitely if your good at soldering.

I can do most types of welding & weld just about anything to anything but rubbish at soldering!

The Araldite comment was just a joke.
