Neil. 118 Posted July 17, 2004 Hi all Just a brief message to ask if you could keep on topic within the Technical discussion Forum. We've seen quite a few posts asking a serious question from a person in need of help & then a few posts in - the Goat or some other off-topic comment appears & the question never gets answered. This can be quite frustrating for the person who needs help. thanks BSC Neil

CorKtina 17 Posted July 19, 2004 Serious hat on folks! Neil is of course quite right. Posts on here have got maybe a little too frivalous of late and "Mia culpa" as well as a few others. When i come on to bsc I click on new posts and dont always realise what forum I am in. I have been quite startled at times to realise that we are discussing a topic on the third page of what started out as a for sale ad.! I dont know what the solution is, is there any way that a topic could be transferred to the "frivlalous forum" leaving the original query where it belongs? I dont know if something lik ethat could be done without a lot (more) extra work for Neil or Nelly. Probably we need to take a little more care before hitting the reply button with a fun answer . Neil. 118 Posted July 19, 2004 Thanks for your comments Richard. I don't want to stop people having fun & enjoying the site - it's just that when someone is asking a question - they really require an answer & the original question soon gets lost & doesn't get answered. I feel that getting answers to technical issues is one of the most important goals of the site. We do have an option of Splitting off a topic if we feel it has gone "Off Topic" but that requires a lot of work from either myself or Nelly & to be honest we need to channel our time & efforts into making the site even better rather than editting topics. I'll get off my :) now. Anyway keep enjoying the BSC website.
markrobson1 0 Posted July 19, 2004 i'm guilty, yesterday gail was asking about steering racks or something, then i started waffling on about those 3 wheeled disabled chariots for no apparent reason, next thing theres about 10 replies to me (including web links!!!), and no ones answering gails serious question. just shows the mentallity of us lot dosent it. its quite right though that people do need an answer to there questions, but i think one of the things that makes this site as good as it is, is the comedy element, it really is very funny and a complement to the site and its members. so how about we all try really hard to answer serious questions first before we all loose the plot and start talking absolute waffle. 82-GLS 0 Posted July 19, 2004 i can see where neil is coming from as i guess we all can :) serious questions need serious answers B) i myself at times may have strayed off topicsas i do enjoy and often get involved with some of the banter on here ;) i think we now need to sometimes look at the posts and try not to stray from the original topic :) sorry if any offence has been made to anyone ;)
Neil. 118 Posted July 19, 2004 Probably the best thing to do would be to start a new topic & then put a link to the topic you are refering to. I've been reading through the For Sale section today & as an example look here http://buysellcortina.co.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=799 This is guy is new to the forum & is trying to sell his car, but after 15 posts the plot is totally lost & the poor guy selling the car has been forgotten. Regards, Neil
CorKtina 17 Posted July 19, 2004 Yes I would think thats easiest thing to do. At its most simple level, we could just start a topic in Discussion called"did you see the post in "for sale" about.....?
CorKtina 17 Posted July 19, 2004 :) and whilst we are on the soapbox, how about restricting pictures of members cars to that forum. I feel this partly because Im fed up scrolling past the same cars 36 times to get to the latest post but mainly cos I dont know how to put mine up :-) avatars are Ok but........... CorKtina 17 Posted July 19, 2004 no point in asking the question in pc help.....isnt there a pc helpless forum?
Darren Lewis 17 Posted July 25, 2004 just thought id make an observation, still pointless posts are being put on in serious enquiries from people wanting help, whats the point in asking anymore when silly replys are put up most of the time  , like i said just an observation
