RobW 0 Posted December 31, 2021 Hi, I'm new to this forum and I've been having trouble with the search function. I'm in Australia and I need to upgrade my brakes to dual circuit. I believe some 'export' models had dual circuit brakes. Can anyone here guide me as to where I might be able to get a master cylinder for the conversion? Cheers, Rob. mk2sav 42 Posted December 31, 2021 Hi Rob - comes up quite regular on here and other Cortina pages . You can use a Land Rover cylinder but if you are fitting it direct to pedal (not on a long tower as per some export markets ) , the fittings are horizontal and not verticle . Fords did make an adaptor to overcome that but where you could get one of them is going to be a challenge . If you search "dual circuit " on here , some pics are still on there . Steve. RobW 0 Posted December 31, 2021 Thanks Steve. I'll have a bit more of a poke around. So I'm guessing there's not just a part-number for a dual circuit master that fit's straight up? All good.
mk2sav 42 Posted January 1, 2022 Hi Rob - no , as far as I know there is none that fit without the adaptor as I mentioned . I have been trying to find a pic but no good yet . Steve.
sheffieldcortinacentre 753 Posted January 1, 2022 Not sure but think the MK1 escort had it as an option?
mk2sav 42 Posted January 1, 2022 Yes , Escort one is similar/same but still horizontal . Found a pic of the adaptor .Some USA cars had a vertical mount but again , not easy to find !!
RobW 0 Posted January 2, 2022 Thanks again for the advice. This looks to me like it will fit? https://www.wilwood.com/MasterCylinders/MasterCylinderList?group=Tandem Remote Master Cylinder
mk2sav 42 Posted January 2, 2022 lLooks like it would fit and while searching , found a pic of one that was apparently used on a Mk2 but why it was taken off I dont know . You would have to check with Wilwood about the bore size as 1 inch is quite a bit larger than standard .
MLI 8 Posted March 17, 2022 (edited) 1 inch bore size will need the kick of a mule to stop it, it will be like stamping on a solid pedal... Try to find a dual master from a 1968 "export" mk2 Cortina (it will have vertical bolt holes and will fit more or less straight on). Or find a dual master from a 1969-70 "export" mk2 Cortina, it will have horisontal bolt holes, so you will then also need the 90 degree adaptor, from the same type of car. Ideally, you want either 0.7" or 3/4" bore size, to avoid it beeing too heavy in operation (without a servo).
