Radders226 0 Posted June 9, 2022 Hi all, Since owning my Mk1 Cortina the rear brakes have a habit of sticking on after braking. I initially put it down to seized wheel cylinders and therefore have replaced them. However, to my disappointment, I still have the same problem. The pedal felt lovely after bleeding up, but has since returned to its 'hardness' during the test drive. The handbrake has always been very tight and only comes up 3 clicks before it locks the car solid. Could this be over adjusted? Or could it even be the after market remote servo that's fitted playing up? To give an example of how bad it it is, if I pull up at a junction with a slight hill, I don't have to worry about putting the handbrake on and the rear wheels are always hot when I arrive home. (only 3 mile test drives at the moment because of this issue) Anyone had these issues before?
sebspeed 19 Posted June 9, 2022 i would change the rear brake hose first as these can collapse inside and act as a one way valve.

Would that also make it hard to bleed when doing the nearside rear? I had to really apply some pressure to get the fluid through.
Lotuscops 73 Posted June 9, 2022 I had this with my servo - is it a Girling Powerstop? To diagnose, just loop bypass the servo brake pipes and try it without.

I'm not sure, I've not had the car that long, so haven't really looked that closely at the servo. See uploaded pic

Lotuscops 73 Posted June 10, 2022 Looks like a Lockheed type - still try the bypass test as I reckon it's that.

I pulled the rubber hose off of the servo this morning and stuck a bolt in it to block it off, went for a short drive and hey presto! No more sticking brakes. Luckily, I had another one of those servos in my spares stash, so fitted that. All good again now. =)
