April 2023 is when you'll not have to pay for road tax,  but you'll have to apply to change your car's V5 to "historic".

Hi John,

I forgot to ask you last week at Dalemain if you had acquired Historic recognition for your Cortina?

I haven't yet Steve,  it's tax'd which is why I've been lazy about sorting it out.   If I had my house in order it would of got free tax at the start of April !

I believe that the MOT exemption is in line with the granting of Historical status to the vehicle. So yes April 2023.

I'm right in saying the car needs to have a valid MOT when it's V5 status is changed to historic ??

I believe that the car has to be taxed and have a valid MOT when application is made. But I could be wrong.

You can change the status of tax / MOT regardless if it has any anyway.

Mines not been MOT'ed since 2019 and sorned since. Just bang off a V10 form with your log book and look forward to a nice new one that says "Historic Vehicle" in the Tax class.

Mot you don't have to do anything , only logbook taxation class needs changing.

Vehicle has to be insured.

Unless you can verify it’s build date.

mine was registered march 82 with a build date oct 81

once proved then dvla will change to historic.

as said you do not need it taxed or mot,ed for this process

thanks
