Ballast resistor wiring help!

Recommended Posts

Ok so I know it's not a Cortina but it will be towing one soon hopefully!

I'm getting the mk2 eurobarge back on the road and had a problem with the dizzy so I decided to fit an accuspark kit..

It's a ballasted unit and

I think I've wired it up correctly but could someone just take a look and see if it's correct...  reason being I got it running but then it now refuses to start, I turn the key and the 2 red lights just go dim.  It's got a new battery so I was just worried if it's possible to wire the ballast wires in wrong and fry the starter? Or have I just been unlucky and it's just packed up all of a sudden unrelated to my new wiring!.

It's running a 2l pinto with ballast coil and resistor but has extra wires at the resistor and 3 cold start connections on the starter itself(red live and a spade and another threaded connection) so just a bit confused.

Have included pics of original wiring and then what I have done.

Many thanks🙏

It should have a ballast wire in the loom  ( a thick grey wire running if memory serves on passenger side of bulkhead)  if you've fitted another it will only be supplying 6 volts.

I've always had problems with any vehicle fitted with accuspark  the ford system is best ( hard to find nowadays).

No ballast wire in The transit, it came with a ceramic ballast resistor from the off, I've just replaced it with a new one.   A lot have people have said accuspark are no good but I've done 40k in the Cortina and it's been great hence I bought another..  It did start fine, I turned it off, connected my timing light and then the starter clicked a few times then nothing...  Was worried I had wired it up wrong but if it looks ok it must just have been a coincidence it went kaput?...
