echorley 6 Posted February 1 Hey all, its been loooong time since I've been here! Very happy to be back, although not for a good reason! My Mk3 has had a total re-furb but I've recently noticed that both the fuel gauge and temp gauge have stopped working... now would this easily point to the dial cluster having an issue as they both sit on the same cluster OR could they simply have not been re-connected the last time we had it sent into the garage? (Slight update on reason for garage situation: It had to go in for inspection and somehow the idiot garage it went to managed to screw up the electrics in a phenomenal way so we took it back from them and had to get it into an old timer auto electrician and we think the gauges haven't worked since then.) Thanks in advance! Pics for fun! 1
sheffieldcortinacentre 600 Posted February 1 If their earthing out they'll go to top of the scale. Simple basic check is with ignition on take the wire of the temperature sender & earth it to the engine if the needle goes off the scale the circuit is ok & the sender is faulty, same for fuel tank. But if both have stopped working this points more to the regulator on the rear of clocks being faulty ( it's a silver rectangular box on the back of clocks ). Try a replacement as I'm not sure how you test them. Or it's possible that the plastic circuit board on the rear of clocks has melted especially if something has been connected wrong they can be repaired by soldering a wire across the damaged part. Also make sure the live connection to the clocks is ok ( black wire in the plug) it should have 12v with ignition on.
