Tom Walker 0 Posted April 30 Hi All, I'm looking for some advice on ignition coil "+" and "-" terminal connectors. With the coil I currently have fitted, the connectors are a bit of a sloppy fit... So I have distorted them slightly to allow them to make better contact: On the new coil I have, the terminals are smaller still! Had a Google to see if any adapters exist, but to no avail... Now I could snip the old connectors off and replace them with ring crimps, then fasten on with nuts... Just seems a shame to remove the original connectors. Would like to hear what others do in this situation. Cheers, Tom
sheffieldcortinacentre 600 Posted April 30 Only two options are squash them or cut them off. But once cut off their unavailable as replacements to best of my knowledge they never have been I'm surprised one of the escort or cossy dealers has never had them remade. As ford used them throughout the 70-80's on everything with a coil.
Tom Walker 0 Posted April 30 Thanks. Yes, I thought that would be the case. Might have a bash at making some terminal adapters.
John Mack 282 Posted April 30 Once upon a time I seem to recall squashing the terminals like you've done, but then it worked at the time so thought nothing of it? Would a spark plug nipple maybe screw onto the new coil, that'd beef it up?! Only other thing I'm thinking would be a bullit type connector to go between the coil connector and loom plug? Tom Walker 0 Posted April 30 Squashing them seems to hold well enough on the old coil. For the new coil, I'm thinking a short section of 6mm tube with the inside tapped to 5mm should screw on nicely and beef the terminals up to the same size as the old one.
