norton 93 Posted May 15, 2024 (edited) what would i need to change, if anything, to fit a Sierra motor in my cortina/? / both 1.6 pinto Edited May 15, 2024 by norton
Tigdlo 27 Posted May 15, 2024 Probably the sump and oil pick up pipe.
sheffieldcortinacentre 641 Posted May 15, 2024 They clear it's straight swap only manifolds, as twin down pipe & different carb. One in my crayford In 00's
norton 93 Posted May 15, 2024 thanks for that. i oviously have the existing manifolds and carb, might sell the Sierra ones on. Unleaded head i assume, can check the letteres stamped on the head i think, by no4 exhaust port from memory. Engine might never go into the car, but good to have a spare and I can learn a bit fiddling with it., I guess i could swap the unleade head on to my existing engine. norton 93 Posted May 16, 2024 i don't know for sure, but i'm assuming the carb is a 28/30 weber.( not arrived yet) Is the sierra version differetn to the cortina and is there a differnce between 1.6 and 2 litre carb? Maybe i could sell it and the manifold to someone upgrading? is it likely i'll be able to sell the Sierra exhaust manifold? probably not much of a market for a 1.6 ? The alternator is still on the engine and the clutch which is supposedly almost new, so I think i might nearly get my moneys worth in auxilliaries alone. sheffieldcortinacentre 641 Posted May 16, 2024 (edited) The carb will be a pierburg TC unless it's had an earlier Weber / manifold fitted (there physically different to cortina) clutch/flywheel will be a bigger 2.0 ( as all 5 speeds are a 2.0 box) all Sierra's except very early ones use them. Alternator will be bolt on wires, your better swapping all your ancillaries over less hassle with mismatches. Loads of 1.6 have been fitted with 2.0 carbs with no problems same with dizzy. sheffieldcortinacentre 641 Posted May 16, 2024 LHD won't matter, fit the cortina manifolds, flywheel etc to the sierra engine.
norton 93 Posted May 17, 2024 (edited) it's a shame but it looks like the clutch, carb and alternator arent of any use to me. Do they fit anything else? Edited May 17, 2024 by norton
sheffieldcortinacentre 641 Posted May 17, 2024 Fit ohcs it's just require different connections if you don't want to alter your car then simplest is to swap the cortina ones onto the later sierra engine.

I'll be looking to sell on the Sierra bits and wonder if they fit anything else. Transit or Granada perhaps.

What I'm trying to find out is what cars they are correct for if they arent correct for the Cortina, ie what I can advertise them as being for without misleading people. Sierra/Granada/Transit but not Cortina or Capri presumably.
norton 93 Posted May 18, 2024 there it is, safe and sound, nice clean looking motor. Going to have fun fiddling with it, it, or maybe just the head, will end up in my mk4 one day.
