Dinoplex 0 Posted July 11 Hello everybody, i just bought a 1976 TC2 Taunus (Cortina mk4) however the left side mirror which is the drivers side for me is not showing the road. There is some small adjustment range on the mirror itself but even in the most downward setting the mirror is still showing the sky, i need to bring myself so much higher when sitting to actually see the road thru the left mirror. Is this normal, if not how could i fix this issue? I also bought the car from first owner that barely drove it since 1985 so it is legit at 90k kilometers so it is probably also the original mirror on it. sheffieldcortinacentre 610 Posted July 11 Is it the fixed or remote type? The fixed one probably needs physically twisting more ( or it's had a passenger one fitted this won't have enough adjustment in it). If it's a remote one ( adjusted with the toggle inside the car) then the mechanism inside the mirror or one of the cables that move it are probably seized up. You may get it to loosen up if you keep squirting oil or WD 40 in behind the the mirror glass.

It's the fixed type of mirror on mine , but also isnt the actual shape of passenger and driver side mirrors different? Or do you mean a "passenger" one from a UK rhd car that might have been put on my lhd taunus' drivers side. I live in Turkey so that prob didnt happen since we had no rhd cortinas in here. When i tried to bring down the mirror more it felt like it was about to break at a certain point so i thought that was the lowest setting but maybe the mechanism there is seized up i ll try a wd40 in there and try to move it down further. Thanks for the tip with wd40 i had a bottle somewhere that i completely forgot i had until you reminded me now
sheffieldcortinacentre 610 Posted July 12 The mounts are sided if i remember correctly ,so if a Turkish passenger side one has been fitted it may not have enough adjustment available to allow you to see properly.
Dinoplex 0 Posted July 12 Ah i see, i hope mine has the correct side and that its just seized up from dirt or something
