Cortina mk4 wipers stop at upright position

Recommended Posts

Hello, i have a taunus tc2 so basically a lhd cortina mk4 and the wipers work fine at both speeds however when i stop them they return to the upright position as it can be seen in picture below instead of resting at the bottom of the windshield. What could be causing this issue and how could i fix it? Thanks in advance

Do they always stop in that position, or in any position?

If always in that position the shot arm on the back of wiper motor has been fitted in the wrong position.

If they stop in any position or don't work check the fuse if it's blown check if the reverse light work.

If not the plug on the switch ( next to gear stick under the car) will have fallen off onto the exhaust pipe melting the wire & blowing the fuse.

yes they always stop in that position, i tried putting on the wipers and shut off ignition just when the wipers were at bottom of windscreen then shut off the wiper switch in the steering column then started car and wipers stayed in normal position for about 20 seconds but then put themselves back to the upright position again. i also asked in a german forum and they said grease the wipers motor and check the wiring. I think i ll just take it to a shop and tell them about your method and the german forums method and hope they ll be able to fix it since i dont know anything about wiper mechanisms and know very little about electrical stuff.

There are two types one is splines & can be set in lots of positions the other is a slot & can only go in 2 positions yours probably needs to be the opposite way around to make it stop at the bottom.

My MK1 Ford Focus does this...I am led to believe it is the relay at fault
