Which prop? 2.8 and 5-speed in to mk4

I am sure this is well trodden ground, but the search function isn't being my friend. 

 

I am putting a 2.8 and 5-speed type 9 in to my mk4, and using an Atlas axle. Which prop shaft do I need, please? 

 

I am pulling the 1.6 speeder prop out. I know the splines won't fit the new box, but can it be adapted/converted?

Easier to just get a 2.0/2.3 cortina one & will bolt straight in.

Brill, thanks. Does it need to be from a manual car? I believe the autos were a different length?

Supposedly but I've never found this, I think it stems from the prefacelift MK3 using a Borg Warner auto compared to fords own C3 from circa 74 onwards..

Hi, I got a prop from a 2.0,so that  should be fine. 

 

The seller split it to post. 

 

Are the two pieces balanced independently? So it doesn't really matter how I rejoin them? 

 

Or is it balanced as one whole unit, meaning I really need to get it right?

They will only go together in one place through bearing half has a double spline the uj one missing, give both a good clean & a smear of grease for future work.

As said above.

There is a keyway where the splines mate together as it goes into the bearing. Give it all a mega clean up / derust and you should see the gap in the splines.

If your going to put a new bearing on the front half, be wary of the Burton Power ones for Cortinas. These have "ears" that are not level to each other though you can use the rubber bit and seal and just transfer it over on to the old housing.

Also fit the bearing with the red seal to the rear.

Those are Capri I think.

Typical Burtons it's only a cortina.
