When it gets warmer, I want to check the timing 2 litre Pinto. Just checking, i need to disconnect the vac pipe i think, do I need to bung up the end or just pull it off?

Pull it of dissy end & bung end up.

Due to modern petrol you'll probably find the engine pinks with the original timing mark ( use it as a starting point) keep tweaking it until it stops.

Then make a note of the figure for future use.

yeah, i just want to check it as it has a tendancy to run hot if it idles for a while (like in a drivthru ;-)  )  it's running on only one petrol pipe (as you know) so i don't like it to get too hot in case it vapourises the petrol in the pipe.

do you mean bung up the pipe or the connection to the dis?

ive never really know what pinking is, i cant hear what the engine is doing with my duff hearing . Its actually running quite sweetly.

You can disconnect it from either end but must stop the eng from sucking air in while the pipe is off.

So if you pull it of dizzy you can push a small bolt, bit of twig, anything in as a temporary bung.

As it will alter the engine revs & therefore give a false timing reading.
