norton 96 Posted February 20 When it gets warmer, I want to check the timing 2 litre Pinto. Just checking, i need to disconnect the vac pipe i think, do I need to bung up the end or just pull it off?
sheffieldcortinacentre 669 Posted February 20 Pull it of dissy end & bung end up. Due to modern petrol you'll probably find the engine pinks with the original timing mark ( use it as a starting point) keep tweaking it until it stops. Then make a note of the figure for future use. Its actually running quite sweetly. Edited February 20 by norton
sheffieldcortinacentre 669 Posted February 20 You can disconnect it from either end but must stop the eng from sucking air in while the pipe is off. So if you pull it of dizzy you can push a small bolt, bit of twig, anything in as a temporary bung. As it will alter the engine revs & therefore give a false timing reading.
