Next question…. Where to source wheel cylinder and is it best to renew both even though one isn’t leaking

the new cylinder is on its way... can I just wedge the shoes apart to extract the old cylinder, or will i need to strip them out completely?

thanks, i thought that looked possible, suitable bit of wood holding the shoes apart should do the trick and be less fiddly.

that was a lot easier than i expected, id still be there if id dismantled the shoes etc.Piston popped out of the old cylinder so must have been well past it.

funny thing is , the handbrake seems better now...
