norton 94 Posted April 24 (edited) i'm looking for something like this to replace the return pipe on my sender unit. This one is 3 to 4mm , so too small, i think i need 6 to 8mm. Any ideas where i could get such a thing? (my repair of the pipe didnt work, failed as soon as i tried to fit pipe on it.) norton 94 Posted April 24 if it were a steam engine boiler, the pipe could be expanded to tightly fit the hole.... is that a possibility? maybe if i inserted something conical ( a big nail perhaps) into the pipe end and hit it with a hammer?
John Mack 304 Posted April 24 Maybe you could T the return into the feed between the tank and the pump, a one way/non return valve on the return might be an idea?

norton 94 Posted April 24 (edited) How could I not find all that lot.! The main pipe is I think 8mm and the return pipe slightly smaller, so , what do you think ? 6mm? (Thanks btw do you think it would do the job? Edited April 24 by norton

TIB3300 441 Posted April 25 If this is what your working with? It would need to super clean and bright metal, for the seals would work. You would also need to know how close the sealing washers would be to the other pipe and threaded bit.. If it was me and not going to use the return pipe? I would drill it out, clean all the area inside and out up and put a nut and bolt through it. With some sort of sealing washer either side.

I don't think there's enough clearance for the fitting and also i imagine the flair on the hole through the backplate will cause trouble. ive been running on a single pipe sender for some time, but i'm trying to reinstate the twin pipe arrangement as fuel vapourisation may be an issue. i have two brand new senders from M*t*m*bil which dont work correctly (they bothe read over 200 OHM and should be in the range 20 to 80 OHM which results in the gauge reading zero all the time.) Currently i have the loose pipe fairly well solid, but i dont think it would take any strain pushing the pipe on it in situ, so i'm planning to bench fit a short flexible pipe to the sender and can then connect the pipe on the car without stressing the sender pipe. I think the car may have had ongoing problems in the past as the return pipe has been bypassed with a rubber pipe... going to have to keep a close eye on it! I'd probably be OK running to SY as it is, but I'm trying to cover all the bases. eg new timing belt this week.
