My wife experienced this once in her Mk1 Golf, she went round a sharp right hand bend and the cap fell off the distributer (1300 engine, dizzy on end of head). It was .ing with rain so instead of opening the bonnet for a look she made a call to the AA ........ reason the cap came off was because I'd cleaned the rotor arm the night before and sat the cap back on but didn't clip it on ....... it drove for 50 miles before that sharp right corner !
TIB3300 445 Posted May 27 I've never heard of that, as you know the clips or usually quite tight. All i can think of is, the clips maybe sprained straight or wrong clips

bortaf 90 Posted October 15 lips on the cap worn where the clip snaps over? i've loads of loose clips, just gave em a slight bending to tighten them up, mind you nowdays it could be a shoddy out of spec cap that makes them loose so give the clips a wee bending? as long as they snap over the lip they should hold ok ? Beeper 67 Posted November 20 (edited) DIzzy cap clips? My Dad couild beat that. Back in the 70's he worked for a second hand car dealer and he was driving a Skoda back to the showroom when he heard a loud bang and the car died, never to start again. Fortunately he was on the main road where the dealership was, so he walked the rest of the way, got the mechanic and they returned to the car. They opened the lid and stood there looking at the engine. After a short time, my Dad said "Look, the distributor is missing!" Somehow it had launched itself out of the block and landed a good few hundred yards back up the road! Ah, they don't make them like they used to!
