Are the seats vinyl or leather ???

Recommended Posts

Hello,

The seats in my Cortina are the wrong colour for my interior - they are more or less white and I want them to be beige.

So, are they vinyl or leather??

Either way, can these be treated / dyed to the colour of my choice?

Also, will it last or run off on my cloths??

I just can’t afford to get them recovered so this is my only real option to sort this issue.

Come on BSC help needed here please 🧐

Seat covers are making my teeth itch.

Leather can be redyed.... fairly easy.... Vinyl??? dont know.... i know on leather you 'strip' the surface coat away and dye the actual skin then apply a sealer coat.....

Try ringing Furniture Clinic ive used their kit to go from light grey to black and its excellent on leather.

The 1st one kolorbond is the one I've heard of, never actually tried it but I remember years ago practical classics magazine with good results.

Also I remember back in the 90's when I used to work at the bus depot they used to used some on the upper deck vynil seats when mummy's little darlings had accidentally written on the seats whilst doing their homework.

No idea of the brand.

Ive had 2k Jawel paint.... i could see through it.... took 5 coats to coverish.... (and still didnt) they swore the batch was fine... i sent it back, they said 'oh sorry must of been something wrong with it' sent me some new paint that covered in 1 coat.... i asked what the new stuff was and the chap said they had used an expensive pigment and specially mixed it...

My point is, if its cheap, it will be watered down.

They have the ability to mix decent stuff but my batches have been low grade.....

I did also buy yellow 2k and was told yellow is a hard paint to cover....

Because id started the project with their paint i purched loads more to complete it.....

I ended up paying as much as i would to get quality (expensive) paint locally.

Just my 2p worth.😊👍

Also To my knowledge no Cortina anywhere was factory fitted with leather ,cloth was introduced as an option with the MK3.

All the primary colours , red yellow and blue , have poor covering power .

it's not the same stuff as normal 2k

it has a latex in it and covered my blue panels in two light coats ,nothings faded a year on in bright sun

what colour do you need I can get it made up and sent to you from the place in I use

As for poor coverage most colours need a value shade to get it to cover better

But as said above that place does sell thinned out paint
