Mk3 Mahem 6 Posted September 1, 2025 Hi all, is there a difference between a pre facelift clip and post facelift,mk4 ,and mk5 clip mounting locations.im aware of the different size bushes. Why I'm asking is that my prefacelift needs welding done and my original clip is nicely powder coated but not ready to go back on yet so I'm wondering if I can get hold of any other (rough as you like) later clip to put on utilising bush holes, this is just to be used so it can be rolled onto a transporter. Thanks in advance
Deano66 248 Posted September 1, 2025 As far as I know they are all the same,I've got a MK4 one for my prefacelift estate & it bolts in ok.
sheffieldcortinacentre 754 Posted September 1, 2025 Yes the complete ones will interchange. Prefacelift the tie bar holes are oval all others are round The engine mount plinths are a different shape ( plus no clearance for pas pipes , prefacelift)) but mounting slots are in the same plane. 4/5 the intersection of frt extension to main cradle lip is flatter to allow pas rack clearance. Low spec tie bars don't have the loop for droplink bush ( prefacelift only), all tie bars are handed as are spindles. Upper & lower arms ,springs, shockers aren't handed. markymarkthree 178 Posted September 2, 2025 ASFAIK the FL/4 & 5 subframe will fit but you will need to pack out the upper mount with a couple of washers. As the PFL bushes are shorter than the FL bushes. You cant fit a PFL sub frame to a FL/ 4 & 5. You may also need a different steering column coupling, as there are different lengths. You may also need the FL/4 & 5 bushes in the bag below.
J2S 163 Posted September 2, 2025 (edited) I did read Google MK3 pfl engine sits higher hence the packing Also camber is more on a mk5 I run a mk5 in my MK3 and the camber Is alot more than same hight with pfl I have both subframes up in my storage I'm off on my holidays this week But I'll grab a few pics for you next week Also found that a square block on the steering coupler hits subframe on a later one but most I've seen and got are the round type rubber Edited September 2, 2025 by J2S
Mk3 Mahem 6 Posted September 2, 2025 Thanks again, no engine going in and steering column won't be connected so no probs with the above - just need to puy my two wheels onto a clip (preferably with steering rack and track rods) so that car can be winched up a transporter dropped off on gravel car park and pushed to garage where welding being done so no road going niceties needed 😀 J2S- where abouts in country are they? Ps hope you having great holiday
