Moxci 0 Posted October 10 I am looking for a new ,or reconditioned starter motor for my Ford Cortina 1978. It's a lucus 25148H. I also require an electronic timer, apparently for the spark plugs, a modification I was told about. Can anyone assist in locating these parts? sheffieldcortinacentre 704 Posted October 10 Which size & type of engine are these for?
Moxci 0 Posted October 11 (edited) Hi SCC. Thank you for taking an interest. I'm doing a check to be certain, so when I give you some details they are accurate. It is the small engine, possibly even a 1,3. Looks more like a lawnmower engine than a car engine. 🤣 The car is in the mechanic's so I'll go and get these specs on Monday. Moxci 0 Posted October 14 Hi SCC Ok I've got a pic, it's a bit blurry because I had to resize it. my vehicle is a left hand drive, I live in Portugal. Can you assist? That’s a Ford Kent Crossflow OHV engine, almost certainly the 1.3 L (1298 cc) version used in late-1970s Cortina Mk 4s assembled in Lisbon. Warm regards Moxci
sheffieldcortinacentre 704 Posted October 14 Yep that's the 1298 Kent cross flow ( most commonly used in mk1-2 escort). The starter motor is same as on those. They ignition they may meen it would be better with electronic ignition instead of points you can get aftermarket kits for them you need to know which type of distributor it has the ford/motorcraft ( black cap) or the Bosch ( terracotta cap) or the best way is to get the Bosch electronic distributor from a MK2 fiesta or MK3-4 escort ( fwd ) ohv eng. It would be expensive to ship especially the starter motor ( as it's heavy) from the UK.
Moxci 0 Posted October 16 Ok, thanks for your direction. I'll research potential suppliers here in Portugal, but currently I've hit a bit of a dead end. Do you have any advice on a typical place that would stock these starter motors. Like scrap yards, an online supplier, vintage car clubs. Where do people in the uk usually source these type of starter motor, are they common or rare? I may have to fly to the uk and purchase these items if I can't source them locally. I know the electronic distribution system isn't available here.
