Plug wiring order when fitting rev counter clocks to facelift MK3/4/5/P100

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

When fitting the higher spec dash clocks in a facelift MK3/4/5/P100 , the wires in the two plugs of low spec cars need removing from the plugs & reinserting in the following order .

One of the grey/yellow dash illumination wires needs cutting & splicing into other one ( leave approx  30mm of wire on this terminal as it can then be reused for the green terminal in plug for rev counter wire).

To remove the terminals from the dash plugs do as follows, with a thin flat blade screwdriver insert from the terminal side of plug (under  the flat face) until resistance is felt , gently push further ( this should push the locking tab) allowing the wire to be pulled free.

When ready to reinsert in new order make sure brass locking tab protrudes slightly to ensure the terminal locks back into plug.

Small plug wire order

1. Empty

2.  Brown X2

3. Green ( new wire from neg coil plug)

4. Black/yellow X2

5.grey/yellow ( now X2) sometimes grey/red

Large plug

1.black/White

2.blue/black

3. Brown ( linked to small plug)

4. Blue/green

5. Black/yellow

6. Blue

7. Blue/white

8. Red/white
