sheffieldcortinacentre 765 Posted March 11 On these it's always been a problem with a worn ratchet mechanism ( facelift onwards 1.3/1.6) which has been unobtainable since the 90s people used to put a blob of weld on them once adjusted right. It's a minute amount between working & not. Some people have built it back up with weld or chemical metal type stuff & re cut/filed them back to size ( masochists) Others would swap to the prefacelift version ( you need mechanism for these now hard to find)or to the 2.0/2.3 ones ( you need drum ,back plate & mechanism eaiser to find). Check everything is free from seizing Inc cable but more than likely it'll be the ratchet mechanism slipping as it's only about a 5-10 contact area. dgo 80 Posted March 11 I was thinking similar and while @sheffieldcortinacentre is probably right about the ratchet mechanism. I was wondering whether you'd checked inside the drums that there are no fluid leaks, the ratchet mechanisms are all clean and the brake shoes are OK. Sometimes by replacing worn shoes with new ones means the ratchet will be in a different place and starts working again. Just a thought.
