FredTransit 0 Posted November 12, 2007 I have just read this 2 year old thread from start to finish, phew! At the start the sale looked genuine, then it began to look like a scam. Now mr a's involved ebay, I think it's less likely to be a wind up. His ebay ID (mrtonywade) doesn't have any bad feedback, but he's never sold a car before (lots of plumbing pipe, not that it means anything) and what he has sold seems to be well recieved. One bid only on the Mk5, and as there is over 9 days left, so we shall see eh? Either way, even ebay won't hold you to a sale if the item is not as described, so if somebody wins the car and it doesn't sell, we will have to watch the feedback.... clutchdust 0 Posted November 12, 2007 I think its genuine, but he should have got the car ready THEN started this thread, instead of getting peoples hopes up.
andy lowe 0 Posted November 12, 2007 I think this car would have been sold a long time ago and recomissioned by now if Mr A didn't make it such a pantomine to try and view it or give an indication of what he actually wants for it. I thought Ghiaests £2.5k offer was a very good one by 2006 mk5 prices.

andy lowe 0 Posted November 12, 2007 yes well that was then, i'm not getting involved with this one now. one of my favourite phrases when sellers drag there heels "today i'm trying to buy the car from you, tomorrow you are trying to sell it to me again". I don't blame you Ghiaest

rik-sharps 0 Posted November 12, 2007 (edited) Wow! That was quite a read..... Just done start to finish. Well done guys and girls - I wouldn't be surprised if Mr. A sold the car to banger racers just to spite all Cortina enthusiasts! Just to add my thoughts, for what they're worth - The whole is it for sale/is it not for sale thing is very weird, as is well documented within this thread. But I have to say in that I'm not entirely sure whos behaviour was most weird; is it Mr A or is it a collective made up of a core group of BSC contributors?? Many comments were bob-on and expected in such unusual circumstances. However, a group of BSCer's seems to have adopted a kind of pack mentallity, like hyenas attacking prey - Weird and almost certain to push a non-enthusiast/newcomer to avoid the site for prolonged periods if not indefinately. I know, having just read from start to finish in half an hour probably gives me a twisted sense of how drawn out and frustrating for all this whole thing was but I'm quite sure the weirdness of this situation is at least partly the fault of some contributors :winner: Most sensible comment of the entire thread -> I've been watching this but not said anything so far... Thing you have to remember is mr a has no interest in cortinas, and given that this one has sat for 20 odd years, its obvious that its not a major priority. If i was in that position, id probably be the same.. maybe id do a search one night on google to find a site that might tell me what the old car my dad has was worth. Yeah, he said it would be for sale and went on to post pics etc. But again, i can see why he then dissappeared. He's not a cortina fan, so isnt going to be on a cortina site very often!! The thought is obviously there to do something about it, but its low on his list of things to do... fair enough!! My girlfriends dad has a 71 lotus elan lying in his garage... been there for years. he keeps meaning to do something about recommissioning it and selling it, but just doesnt get round to it. TBH i think there's a fair chance this car will just end up back in the garage to sit for a few more years. Would be a crying shame though All im saying is I dont think he's out to wind anyone up, its just not a burning problem to him. One final point: Many of the people who I feel are included in the 'Pack' are people whose contributions I normally enjoy reading - Please, lets try and be nice to people, encourage them to return to the site and hopefully (eventually) sell a car well worthy of saving to an enthusiast on this site. Rant over  This is the edited bit: I've just re-thought the whole thing. I could be right or maybe the guys just a knob after all (did someone already mention that  :winner:) Edited November 13, 2007 by rik-sharps
G.O 17 Posted November 13, 2007 Also, there’s a bit of staining on the steering wheel, and dash board, which won’t come of with soap and water, any ideas, There IS some MOULD on the inside which may stain the interior, I haven’t tried to remove it, as there may be a way of removing these small patches (mostly on dash and steering wheel) erm........ anyway, theres a few of us here on BSC in the Carshalton/Wallington area, so arranging a viewing shouldn't be a problem.................
