Master Cylinder advice mk5 1.6 - Buy new or recondition - where?

Recommended Posts

Hi, My brakes were/are faulty, pedal flat on floor, even after going round the disks and drums so was going to replace master cylinder with new but looks like I've got the wrong one.

So maybe recon the old one, is it worth it?

Can I buy a new one like it somewhere?

Guys on FB group suggest Past Parts for recondition, and their work looks fantastic but at £170ish should I consider other options?

Pics below, cant see any markings on it.

THANKS!

You need the Bendix one fitted to late 81-82 (X-Y reg) mk5's or the servo from any MK3-4 or early Mk5 V-W reg (79-81) to fit that master cyl.

As the Bendix one was only fitted for approx the last 18 months of production there getting very hard to find.

It will be cheaper/ easier to find the earlier servo.

Swap the servo as you've already bought the new master cylinder.

Only a pin & 4 nuts .

I've just managed to buy a new master cylinder for £40.81. If you search cvpartsinmotion they did have a few for sale for the Mk5 Cortina from 79 to 82 with the ATE system. It's not arrived yet, so will see if it's the correct fitment.

Good to know it's this sort of info that needs to be shared & is why I did the parts list some years ago now.
