johnny boy 159 Posted August 28, 2018 Hi I'm Johnny, I recently bought a 1965 2 door Mk1 Cortina. I intend to update it mechanically. First job replace the old crappy exhaust with a 2.5 inch one ,that can handle what ever engine/box I put in at a later date. Old crappy exhaust Over axle pipe. Full 2.5 inch system. johnny boy 159 Posted August 28, 2018 (edited) the Cortina is currently fitted with a 1600 crossflow motor.Today I fitted an electronic ignition kit, only took 20 mins, and fitted a new Bowden cable clamp to the 32/36 Webber carb, previously tied on !! johnny boy 159 Posted August 29, 2018 Last night I straightened the bent front grill, before painting it with black inserts. Unfortunately I forgot a before picture.
nascar66 74 Posted August 29, 2018 It's good that you can get stuck in straight away. I've barely touched mine in the two years I've owned it as other projects have taken priority!

johnny boy 159 Posted September 1, 2018 This weekend I've adjusted the timing to 34 degrees total advance, and reset the carb. I looks like the idle jet is too big ,as the mixture screw is too far in for a nice idle. but its made it a different drive altogether.
johnny boy 159 Posted September 2, 2018 (edited) Strange noise from the rear under deceleration today, checked it out, and the rear u/j was seizing up, and the pinion nut had worked loose. Oh and the rear drums are so worn , the shoes are at the end of adjustment.. More work. Edited September 2, 2018 by johnny boy
