M5Greg 83 Posted August 11, 2018 The rear seat arm rests needed re-trimming so with the help of a friend with a sewing machine we spent a few hours learning how to sew car trim, these rear arm rests also cover the front seatbelt reels so they aren't just a straight cover. I haven't screwed them in yet as there is more cloth to go on the rear panels first and the seat belts to bolt in. I also gave the under bonnet felt a paint and a bit of a shave to get rid of the rough bits, I used the later plastic clips instead of the big self tappers because I didn't want to screw into the new paint. M5Greg 83 Posted August 19, 2018 Just need to sort the carb out get it running and then it's time for me to call Aldridge trimming, will need to arrange covered transport as well. Hopefully Aldridge will be able to get the hood exactly right as the old one is a shrunken mess, I'll get them to do the rollbar and rear side panel carpets as well. Danish 294 Posted August 20, 2018 Nice progress. What fabric are you using?
M5Greg 83 Posted August 20, 2018 Nice progress. What fabric are you using? I'm sticking with the original Black Mohair, the last owner had a Blue hood fitted but I prefer the Black.
M5Greg 83 Posted August 20, 2018 I phoned a classic hose company about a set of new silicon hoses in a plain Black colour but they need at least 5 orders to justify the tooling costs, even then a set of 4 for the V6 is near the £200 mark. I've got brand new Ford top and bottom radiator hoses but the heater hoses could do with changing, they are both shaped so can't just buy some straight hose and cut to length. I think the old ones will be ok for now but will need to look for an alternative.
Danish 294 Posted August 21, 2018 I bought individual bends from ASH, but the joiners can be quite large and they often have quite long tails inside the hose making it hard to get tight bends.
drutin 10 Posted August 21, 2018 (edited) Nice car :) Re heater hoses, Long way lol What about buying right angles etc or finding other ones similar to cut up and using straight alloy pipe etc to make them up, More parts etc May work out. I wanted to try and keep it looking standard but I will have a look at some other hoses that might have the basic shape, the good thing about the silicon hoses at Classic Hoses is that they do look like the original rubber ones but a lot of money for 4 hoses. a1topdog 4 Posted August 22, 2018 (edited) Loving the quality of this restoration , but something not looking right with this new armrest cover. Not sure if that's how its supposed to be but the seem between the side and top looks too low and the cover looks a bit ripply on top. Maybe its where you have only trial fitted it? https://www.buysellcortina.co.uk/forums/index.php?app=core&module=attach§ion=attach&attach_rel_module=post&attach_id=46613 Edited August 22, 2018 by a1topdog
sheffieldcortinacentre 532 Posted August 22, 2018 That's probably better than when new.
M5Greg 83 Posted August 27, 2018 I found a local furniture maker to do the wood frame for the hood, this basically follows the lines of the rear screen and C pillars. The corners seemed to be the hardest to do, but he did a good job and all I had to do was screw and bolt it to the car, just to help seal it I ran some Tiger seal around first and let it set overnight and then fixed the wood. All of the wood will be covered with Black vinyl before the hood is attached to it, I also sealed the wood with some thinned varnish.
